Stencil Workshop!

No country craft stencils here! It looks like silk screening, but it's stenciling!

The Stencil Workshop will be taught by Kim McCarthy aka SOULE of Urban Soule Design.

This workshop jumps into action with Kim guiding you through the entire process from the creation of the stencil,
to applying the stencil image on multiple surfaces, using a variety of mediums. Learn to transfer your images onto fabric, paper, wood and many other surfaces.

This is a very fun, hands-on class so you should wear "painting clothes".

Students are encouraged to give renewed life to their vintage clothes, bags, 100% cotton shirt or fabric. (100% cotton works best but a cotton/poly blend will do, shirts with ribbing (raised vertical lines) do NOT stencil well)
also recommend: pillow cases, tote bags, sketchbooks, canvas, etc... which you should bring to apply your stencil(s) on.

* All paint and other materials will be provided for use in the class only. (including other stencil material, X-acto knife, cutting board and paints)

Bring your own black and white image to use for the stencil
(printed on paper), keep in mind
you may be tracing the image so the simpler and cleaner the lines, the better.

No more than 5 students per class to allow for plenty of individual instruction.

You will leave the class with your printed stenciling samples, instructions, the custom stencils that you designed for this class, and the confidence to personalize your life with creative stenciling designs!

Ages 18+ only. All levels welcome.

Cost: per person (includes materials fee)

Time: Roughly 3-5hrs depending on class option

All classes take place the month of June 2010

Class Options Basic: $85.00 Learning how to cut and apply one layer stencils

Intermediate: $115.00 Learning how to cut 2-3 layer stencils

Advanced: $145.00 Learning to cut 3+ layer stencils for photo-realistic look

Classes will be held the month of June. Dates and times are chosen by you as a student (upon checkout leave a note specifying the date and time you would like to do the class and I will schedule you)

Streaking meteor lights up Midwest skies

I wish I could have seen this in person!

by Associated Press

MILWAUKEE — A large meteor streaked across the Midwestern sky momentarily turning night into day, rattling houses and causing trees and the ground to shake, authorities said Thursday. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Witnesses say the meteor lit up the sky Wednesday about 10:10 p.m. National Weather Service offices across the Midwest say it was visible from southwestern Wisconsin and northern Iowa to central Missouri.

Radar information suggests the meteor landed in the southwest corner of Wisconsin, either Grant or Lafayette counties, said Ashley Sears, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Milwaukee office. Officials in both counties said no one has reported seeing a meteor or crater.

Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley said his office received multiple reports of a very bright light in the sky followed by houses and the ground shaking.

"There were reports of four to five minutes of explosions or rumbling," he said. He couldn't say what the sound was but speculated it may have been a sonic boom if the meteor broke the sound barrier.

Sean Thompson was watching television in his Iowa City, Iowa, apartment when a bright light caught his eye. He saw the meteor for about 10 seconds before it disappeared.

"It was somewhat alarming to me," Thompson said. "I've seen shooting stars, but I've never seen something jetting across the sky with flames shooting off it."

Forecasters say the meteor was part of a meteor shower called Gamma Virginids, which began April 4. The shower is expected to last through April 21, with Thursday set to be the second straight day of peak activity.

I received a very nice compliment from a person who purchased one of my artworks from me on Ebay

"I know u get this a lot, but your work is awesome. Thank you for your effort and for sharing your talent. Your authenticity keeps me interested in art"
- a******o

it is such a nice comment,it makes me feel like I am doing something good... sometimes I think it's all really not worth it..... but the above words will keep me going.
So... try to compliment your friends and family today on something, it makes a world of difference to hear nice things.

day 3 of the sound stencil....

I cut out and added the black (third) stencil

after the black dried, I went back over with the gray (first) stencil and added white highlights
I'm waiting fr it to dry and I will add more highlights... more pix to come as well as the finished product, I should be done today.....

day 2 of the sound stencil.......

(sorry about the bad pix, I took them with my phone camera in my outdoor studio)

here is one of the stencils out of paper
I painted the background, first,a light gray coat of acrylic, then blended white, dark gray and black spray paint.(The colors in the picture are off due to bad lighting and my phone camera)
Once the background is dry,I sprayed the first stencil, being the lightest gray.
(the ripples)
Now I sprayed the second stencil being dark gray.
I'm working on cutting the third stencil (black) and will spray it as soon as I finish.
Then I will take the two gray stencils and re spray them to add highlights.... I will also post pix of them as I go along.
